The Giridih district police have finally arrested the rape accused, Mikku Mumar Mandal, and forwarded him to the Giridih Central Jail on Friday afternoon. The accused, had allegedly raped an 8-year-old girl of Khedwara village under Birni police station of Giridih district on Thursday afternoon.
The site of occurrence is about 55 Km from the district headquarters at Giridih. The victim, a minor girl, is said to be a student of standard – III in the nearby government primary school.
“Soon after getting information, we visited the site of the incident and looked into the matter. But as the perpetrator, Mikku Kumar Mandal, who is the husband of Khedwara Panchayat Mukhiya, Kanchan Devi, had disappeared after committing the crime, a massive search operation was launched to nab him. However, the accused was arrested on Friday morning. Consequently, he was forwarded Giridih Central Jail later this afternoon”, said the Officer in-Charge, Birni PS, Amarjit Kumar Singh.
“Looking after the sensitivity of this heinous crime, a different team of police officers was pressed into the all suspected locations to arrest the culprit. Finally, the accused was arrested today morning from a dreary location across the nearby forest areas”, Singh added.
Entire incident took place between 12:30 – 1:00 pm on Thursday, when the minor girl, along with her mother, had gone to take bath along the nearest river bank. Later on, the mukhiya of Khedwara panchayat, Kanchan Devi, who had friendly relations with the victim’s mother, also reached to the same spot of the river bank for taking a holy dip. In the meantime, the mukhiya, Kanchan Devi, asked the minor girl to get some clothes from her home, situated about 300 – 400 meters from the river bank. As soon as the minor girl visited the mukhiya’s house, she met mukhiya’s minor daughter and took the clothes. But meanwhile, Mukhiya’s husband, Mikku Kumar Mandal, who had been keeping close watch on this minor girl, tactically took her towards bathroom and raped her. The perpetrator however managed to escape from the spot soon after committing the crime.
According to the villagers, the incident came into light at around 1:30 pm on Thursday, when the victim’s mother noticed her minor daughter under unusual bleeding and senseless conditions. On being queried, the minor victim revealed her woes. Consequently, the victim’s parents along with other villagers took her to the primary health center at Birni.
Finding the deteriorating conditions of the victim, she was sent to the Giridih Sadar hospital. But the minor victim was finally referred to the PMCH at Dhanbdad by late evening, though her condition is said to be stable.
