Muharram observed with great zeal at Dhanbad and Bokaro. The procession passes peacefully and except few small incidents, no major untoward incidents were reported across the twin cities.
Following a clash between two groups of same community in Katrash (Dhanbad) on Friday night, district administration had executed an order to ban on Muharram precession, police said.
Keeping in view with the rising crime along with overt activities, police have begun the moves to ensure proper security of the common man during ‘Muharram’ in both the districts. More than 100 sensitive points in Dhanbad and more than 50 of these at the district of Boakro were identified, officers were accordingly asked to take necessary steps to avoid any untoward incidents or unwanted happenings, which may disrupt peace.
Proper checking systems were implemented on all the entry and exit points in the duo district, cops also reallocated their location keeping in view of the strategic entry and exit points of the coal and steel city, police official said.
‘Muharrum’ celebrates to honor the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Holy Prophet. It begins on the first day of the first month of the Islamic calendar, which lasts for next 10 days, said Samser Aalm a resident of Makhdumpur Bokaro.
“It is said that during this month only, the soldiers of Yazid, a Muslim ruler, surrounded Hazrat Imam Hussain, along with his family and followers at a place called Karbala in Iraq. In the days which followed the incident, they were denied food and water and many of them were even eliminated”, he added.
