Palamu MP Vishnu Dayal Ram took stock of the water situation here at Shivalyaya Ghat in Daltonganj. The residents of the area are hard-pressed lot as they perform ancestral rites at this ghat. Just at the advent of summer, river Koyal, on which this Ghat is located, is flowing with a thin stream which water is not fit for even hand wash!

Chhatarpur MlA Radha Krishna Kishore blamed the hydrological condition of the area for the water woes where even groundwater level is very low. He also stressed up on the need for proper ground water recharge and underlined the need built as many check dams as possible for retention of the surface water.

Senior BJP leader Mangal Singh accompanying the MP said the residents asked them to get Koyal riverbed dug up for water. The MP, in consultation with the residents, selected five places on this bank of the river and a JCB machine was pressed into service. The squares made are of 25x20x4 in size. One such square came up late in the evening of Saturday itself near JNV Daltonganj. A four feet water appeared in the dug which can brought some relief to cattle. Daltonganj is reeling under severe water crisis as its ward number 16 Abadganj is a chronic water starved area.
