MP of Jamshedpur Ajoy Kumar has demanded special status for Jharkhand in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He has alleged that the Centre has been ignoring the plea of Jharkhand for special status despite repeated reminders.
He said the State had been demanding the special state status for the last 13 years ever since it came into existence after separation from Bihar. Despite the request of Jharkhand politicians, the Central Government has not yet given special status to the State. The MP said the State was reeling under
left-wing violence ever since its inception. The State lags behind other States of the country in many respects. Notwithstanding the bitter truth, the Centre has been ignoring the demand for special status, the MP said.
He has also demanded deputation of doctors in the primary health centres of the district on a priority basis. He said the rural parts of the district were still lagging behind the urban areas in terms of medical facility.
The people living in villages are still deprived of proper medical facilities due to absence of a good number of doctors in the PHCs and other health centres, the MP said. The MP said the National Rural Health Mission had failed to bring about any positive changes or improvement in the rural health scenario. He said the State Government should take concrete measures to improve the situation.
