Mountaineers join hands for cleanliness mission at Dimna

Published on:

Taking a cue from the Prime Minister’s call to observe October 2 as ‘safai divas’, mountaineers under the banner of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation ( TSAF) embarked on a cleaning drive on Friday at Dimna Area from 8 am onwards.

Starting out from Brick Kiln area,  the cleaning drive  covered the open  ground in front of the kiln , the dam area, the Management Development Centre area, the guest house area,  the picnic area, the vehicle cleaning area by side of  the lake and the area by the side of the road coming from lake back to the starting point.

led by legendary mountaineer Bachendri Pal, a 35-member TSAF team comprising staff together with  few  volunteers  equipped with collection bags , tongs and face masks  collected all the strewn  garbage of the non-biodegradable kind.  A mini pick up was arranged to bring back the garbage for proper disposal.

TSAF sources said that such efforts would be made periodically  from time to time keeping in mind the PM’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA)  – a movement that seeks to create a Clean India.  The cleanliness drives  by  TSAF from time to time would be  a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as cleanliness was very close to his heart. It is a noble work on the part of TSAF and its purpose is to spread awareness among masses.

An official of TSAF informed that environment education was an integral part of its Outdoor leadership Courses conducted in Jamshedpur and in the Himalayas. TSAF had previously carried out cleaning exercises in the river Ganga, in the Himalayas and in other places in and around Jamshedpur.
