Daltonganj police on Saturday arrested two person, including a woman and her daughter for assaulting a police woman.
DSP headquarters Daltonganj, Premnath said, “There is a long pending land dispute between Kanti Devi and Indu Bhagat in Hamidganj area. On Friday, Indu Bhagat came to Daltonganj PS complaining that Kanti Devi and her people were raising a wall on the disputed land. A lady police patrol car was sent to the site. A police party sent there immediately.”
“One lady constable Puja Devi went to Kanti Devi to inquire as to why she was doing this when Kanti Devi and her daughter Teeju Bhagat attacked this lady cop Puja, injured her seriously,” she added.
Premnath said the dispute was boiling between the two over the last one month. On Friday it culminated in the infliction of injuries to a lady cop on duty reiterated DSP Premnath.
DSP said Kanti and Teeju have been remanded in judicial custodsy on Saturday.
Many in the town found a message in English on Whatsapp asking for help and launch a tirade against Daltonganj police. Sources said insinuations were made that some upper caste people were torturing and harassing a Bhagat family.
However DSP Premnath said the njured lady cop, Puja Devi, filed the FIR and on the basis of this FIR Kanti and Teeju have been jailed.
Premnath further said police have drawn section 353 of IPC (Assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) against Kanti and her daughter Teeju.
In two other separate incidents one 62 year old woman Bhani Devi was beaten to death on charge of practicing witchcraft in Tarhassi police station while a 20 year old married woman Barti Devi lost her life for objecting to her husband’s illicit sexual move for a woman in Chainpur police station.
