Monsoon is likely to arrive in Jharkhand in between June 15 and June 18, MET officials said on Sunday.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will start around June 11. The low pressure area will pull southwest monsoon into Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. But this depression is unlikely to cause any cyclonic storm.
The Ranchi Meteorological Centre of IMD has predicted that southwest monsoon will have a timely arrival in Jharkhand.
An official of IMD said that the condition is quite optimal for the arrival of monsoon in Jharkhand adding that usually monsoon hits Kerala by June 1. But this year the southern states witnessed a rain cloud on May 31 that indicates monsoon will hit Jharkhand in mid of June.
On Sunday the southwest monsoon touched Maharashtra, entire Karnataka, parts of central Bay of Bengal and a vast part of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
IMD, Delhi that annually predicts monsoon rainfall for four rainy months from June to September has predicted a normal monsoon in Jharkhand which means Jharkhand will have cent per cent rainfall with a possible error ranging to four percent.
The rainfall record of Jharkhand during March and May has been quite encouraging. Jharkhand witnessed Nor'wester for the record 10 times causing rain. The Yaas cyclone brought more cheer in terms of rainfall. As far as pre-monsoon rainfall is concerned Bokaro recorded the highest rainfall at 451.4mm from March till May. Bokaro was followed by Jamshedpur with 416.8mm rainfall whereas Ranchi received 351.2mm rainfall.
