Monsoon rain begins washing away bridges

Published on:

Monsoon has entered in Jharkhand just 3-4 days ago but as previous years it has once again started uncovering the use of inferior quality materials and weak constructions by the Government agencies especially in the rural areas of the State. In Barkagaon and Keredari blocks of Hazaribagh, the first heavy showers of this monsoon has washed away Basariya Bridge and has damaged Kaandtari Bridge.

The Basariya Bridge which was built in 1999 was washed away on Friday night. The bridge was between Basariya and Bengwari village and with its demolition about 20,000 villagers have lost road connectivity to their block Keredari.

Heavy rain has damaged the Kaandtari Bridge of Barkagaon block. Two pillars of this bridge have gone down for more than 1 to 1.5 feet and cracks have appeared on it. This bridge was built in 2007. Due to heavy rain a turbo truck also got washed away in this river. The diversion near Hardara Bagi Sun Temple is also taking its last breath as most of the pipes fitted in it have been choked.

The damage of Kaandtari Bridge has been taken seriously by the villagers and their representatives.
