This year though the arrival of monsoons is a little delayed in the State of Jharkhand, but the monsoon condition is nearly normal. Monsoon here is expected to arrive by June 24.

“Once the monsoon hits the coast of Kerala, it takes about 12-15 days to reach Jharkhand. Around June 24, we are expecting monsoon to arrive here. This year monsoon will be near normal-96 per cent plus-minus five percent,” said Dr. A Wadood, Chairman Department of Agro Meteorology and Environmental Science, Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Ranchi.

As per the MET Observatory Centre-Ranchi, monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on June 8. “There is a high possibility of the monsoon hitting Kerala on June 8. After onset over Kerala, the conditions are favourable for further advancement.

Depending on the after onset system and the atmospheric conditions, the exact date for Jharkhand can be predicted,” said Senior Scientist, MET Observatory Centre- Ranchi, Dr. RS Sharma.

For the next four - five days in the State, there are chances of rainfall and thunderstorm in isolated places in the north- eastern parts and the southern districts attached to Odisha. However, the north western part will continue to remain more or less dry.

“There is also a good possibility of lightning strikes during thunderstorm because this is a pre- monsoon thunder activity in the State.

During the next 15- 20 days, the people of Jharkhand need to take special precautions wherever there is a thunderstorm because this is the onset phase and during his time lightning may strike due to some atmospheric conditions and sufficient moisture also,” Sharma further added.

In the State Capital, the temperature will remain near normal. However, in the second half of the day, there are chances of rain and thunder in isolated pockets around the city.

According to the weather bulletin released on June 7 by the MET Observatory Centre- Ranchi, the maximum temperature in the Capital city was recorded at 33.2 degree where as the minimum temperature was 25.5 degree Celsius.  From June 8- June 11 the maximum temperature around Ranchi will be around 34-35 degree Celsius where as the minimum temperature will be between 24- 26 degree Celsius.
