Bringing much respite for the public from the sweltering heat, the South-West (SW) monsoon hit Jharkhand on Monday. Heavy rainfall lashed all most every part of the Capital City with 11.00 mm rainfall. According to the official of MET Ranchi Observatory Centre, the State will receive adequate rainfall in the days to come covering the deficit level.

During a press meet organized at the MET Observatory Centre - Ranchi here on Monday, Director, MET observatory centre - Ranchi, BK Mondal said, “The advancement of SW monsoon has almost covered the State. In accordance to parameters of MET department within three days all parts of the State will be covered up by heavy shower.”

In addition, the Director stated that North-Eastern (NE) parts of the State that includes Dumka, Deogarh, Sahibganj, parts of East Singhbhum recently recorded more than sufficient rainfall signifying the good status of rainfall ahead. Still, as per the record of the MET Observatory Centre - Ranchi, from June 1 till now (June 24), the centre has recorded 80.4 mm rainfall registering -44 per cent deficit.

“Due to slow SW monsoon advancement, the deficit aroused. By far, approximately 143 mm rainfall should have been registered now, if in the second week of June, the movement and circulation of SW monsoon would not have been diverted,” said Senior Scientist, Ranchi MET Observatory Centre, RS Sharma.

However, the officials clarified that this year too, the scarcity will be filled up soon. “About 1092 mm rainfall throughout the season is categorized under normal or above normal category by the MET. In 2017 as well, nearly 90 per cent deficit was recorded in the beginning which was later on covered in the mid July registering a good rainfall in State,” said Sharma. In the meantime, the officials assured that the monsoon will be quite favourable for the farmers this season.

Notably, in comparison to last nine years, advancement of SW monsoon this year has been deterred severely. As per the MET records, in 2010, rainfall hit Jharkhand on July 17. Similarly, in 2011, by the second week of June rainfall had covered maximum districts. Furthermore, according to the data, from 2012 to 2017, yet again showing phenomenal advancement of SW monsoon, rainfall lashed the State from June 15 to June 19, registering up to 1101.1 mm rainfall.

The weathermen had earlier stated that the development of low pressure system over northwest Pacific Ocean, weak cross equatorial flow, unfavorable location of active phase of Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) was the few prime reasons for low advancement of SW monsoon, this season.

On Monday, stabilizing the temperature level, the Capital City recorded maximum 34.0 degree Celsius and minimum 24.3 degree Celsius whereas Jamshedpur recorded maximum 30.9 degree Celsius and minimum 25.4 degree Celsius. The minimum and maximum temperature of Daltonganj, which normally hovers around 40-45 degree Celsius, received 5.0 mm rainfall. Daltonganj registered maximum 38.6 degree Celsius and minimum 25.4 degree Celsius on Monday.
