Monorail to stretch as far as Greater Ranchi

Published on:

One of the most ambitious projects to end traffic woes and provide Ranchiites a hassle-free mode of transportation would be stretched upto Greater Ranchi as sources in the department of Urban Development confided that the Monorail proposal is being considered to provide connectivity up to the proposed new building of Project Building.

Notably, the State government had approved the project on October 10 with emphasis on a comprehensive mobility plan for 30 years to ease the burden on the city’s roads.

“One of the minor adjustments discussed today was routing the monorail to greater Ranchi. If that is agreed the proposed network would stretch upto 1-km and two additional stations has been suggested on the extended route,” said an official seeking anonymity.

The two stations have been proposed at Jagannathpur and near CRPF camp in Dhurwa. As per the previous proposal a monorail route was proposed along 13-km long route from Kutchery to Dhurwa.

The amended proposals were discussed between top officials of the department and the IDFC which is the consultant for the project. Another route on which the monorail has been suggested is on the 12-km long stretch from Namkum to Piska More.

The IDFC has been asked to submit a detailed project report by December as it submitted its feasibility (detailed technology option evaluation) report on metro and monorail projects to the chief minister and urban development minister few days back.

Earlier officials of the department had confided that the project will take off by March 2016 and efforts would be made to run the rail in the city by 2019. The project will come up on public-private-partnership (PPP) mode and is likely to be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
