Two to three Jharkhand girls are playing football at the national level, it is definitely not a joke,” confidently said former Football Player Monojit Das who was at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Jharkhand Complex from June 20 to 21 for selecting boys and girls soccer players between the age group 19 to 23 years for a national championship.

“Similar to hockey, the Sate has earned much fame for football girl players,” Das said. Expressing the football talent of the young boys here, he said, “Compared to other States of the eastern zone, boys are technically not sound about football despite having a good physique.” “Although the Birsa Munda football stadium is one of the best in India, it is not used for practice sessions by football players. If utilised, the ground would be perfect for world class football playing,” added Monojit.

Sharing the changing football trend, Monojit highlighted on the individual performance adapted by players of their times which has now been replaced by tactical method among the young players. “I have no hope for the Indian Football Team to participate in the International tournaments. In fact, in the national level too we lag behind,” conceded Monojit.

The low performance of Indian Football has disturbed Monojit who is a coach of the popular East Bengal Under-15 team at present. As a tip to improve this performance Monojit focused on the priority of ‘being Athlete’ which is essential for every game. Sharing his playing spirit he said, “The Government must frame a big budget to increase the football infrastructure at the national level. Then only the strength and combination of Indian Players can be boosted.”

Irrespective of all these shackles faced by the Indian Football Team, Monojit cheers for Syed Rahim Nabi, Sunil Chhetri and Subroto Pal and expects them to shine the name of India in some or other manner through their football playing skills.
