Condemning the ‘yajna’ which was recently organised in Rajashthan to boost up the morale of the Indian Army after the surgical strikes across the line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat said that the Narendra Modi Government had been making attempts to give religious touch to the Army.
Karat while talking to the media persons at the party office in Ranchi also criticised Raghubar Government in Jharkhand for Badkagaon firing and announced mass unity against the government. “The Defense Minister termed Indian Army as Hanuman while a ‘yajna’ was performed in Rajasthan for the armed forces and participated by as many as 112 priests which is not acceptable. Indian Army being the most sensitive institution in the country must be kept out of such activities and terminologies. It is derogatory towards our defense forces and a criminal act against it as well,” said Karat.
“We condemn it from the core of our heart as such things were never seen in the past. Every citizen in the country needs to oppose it,” she added. Further, Karat also criticised the Raghhubar Das led NDA Government in Jharkhand for Badkagaon incident and termed that there was no law in the State.
“It is not justified that an elected representative was arrested in the midnight in violation of the ruling of the Supreme Court. The police even went into the houses of villagers and threatened them of dire consequences if they did not tell about the whereabouts of the MlA. It was completely wrong which needs to be opposed widely,” she said adding that the act was an attempt to break the unity of the people by targeting the poor and the tribal community in the State.
Karat also pulled up Modi Government for increasing the prices of petrol and diesel in the country and accused the centre for filling up its own treasure at the cost of the people’s pocket. “It will definitely put an adverse effect on the budget of the common people,” she said. Karat also questioned the logic of petrol price being Rs 67.65 per liter when the price of crude oil was $ 50 per barrel in the International market.
“Modi Government has nothing to do with the prices in the International market,” she added. Karat also opposed the efforts being made by the Modi Government to make Aadhaar mandatory for various schemes and programmes run by the union Government.
“Despite the ruling of Supreme Court, several ration cards have been cancelled, pensions have been withheld and payment of workers has been stopped as the biometrics of the Aadhaar did not match. It was an attempt to attack the working class of this country,” said Karat.
