Mob went on rampage in Shahpur where a political leader-cum-businessman Raj Mohun Poloo shot a mechanic Aloke to death over a long drawn land dispute with him this afternoon. The mob smashed the glass panes of the windows of Poloo and torched the backside of his house. Columns of smoke rose high in the sky. Poloo has his house near the bank of the river Koyal less than half a kilometer away from Daltonganj.
Sources said the mob just wanted Poloo but since he had fled his life was saved. Police had a very tough time in preventing the crowd otherwise there would have been a tit for tat with any family member of Poloo.
Sources said the Chainpur police were the first to reach the place of occurrence as Shahpur comes under it. However, when the mob went more berserk reinforcements were rushed from Daltonganj police station.
OC Daltonganj police station Sanjay Kumar Malviya who rushed with reinforcements there told The Pioneer, “The mob did damage Poloo’s house. It also set afire the jungle jharee and other less important articles of his house lying in the back yard of Poloo’s house”.
The police officer said Poloo ran away from the spot otherwise the mob would have torn him into pieces. The police officer added, “The weapon with which this murder of Aloke was committed could not be recovered.”
On the motive behind this murder, Malviya said, “A long standing land dispute resulted in this day light murder. Aloke was building his house on a plot of land which Poloo described as his land.”
Malviya said, “This Poloo is a very temperamental sort of man as once he killed a cow with his rifle since the poor cow had gone into his field.” His rifle is still seized and lying in mal khana of the police station in Chainpur.
The police officer further added, “This man is facing many cases all arising of his bad behavior and criminal act over the land dispute. He once beat up the mother of Aloke. This matter too reached Chainpur police station.”
This Poloo has his affiliation with a political party but has no sway any where because of his most erratic act said another police officer. About a dozen leaders drawn from BJP, Congress, JVM, JMM CPI Ml and others reached the place of occurrence.
