MlAs joining BJP: JVM to challenge Speaker in HC

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) would knock the door of Jharkhand High Court challenging the decision of the Assembly Speaker on its petition to disqualify six ‘rebel’ MlAs. Speaker Dinesh Oroan has given his nod to the merger of six of the party’s legislators into the BJP when they approached him informing about their split from the JVM.

“We came to know the about the decision of the Speaker through media reports and no communication has been made to us from the Assembly. If the faction has been granted permission to merge it into any other party, then we will move to the court seeking guidance in the light of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution,” said senior party leader Pradeep Yadav.

The bloc, which comprises over 2/3rd strength of the JVM’s legislators after writing to the Speaker about severing their ties from the party and merging into the BJP went ahead joining the saffron party. Though, the JVM questioning the legitimacy of the merger in the light of the provisions of the Anti-defection law had also requested the Speaker to disqualify the MlAs from Assembly membership.

“The Speaker looked into the applications and granted his permission to merge the faction with the BJP. He at the same time also issued notices to all the six members to reply by February 16 on the points raised by the JVM,” said an official of Assembly Secretariat.
