MlA Sarangi raises NH-6 jam issue with CM

Published on:

Bahragora MlA Kunal Sarangi on Monday met Chief Minister Raghubar Das at his residence on the poor condition of NH-6 that has led to the serpentine jam of heavy vehicles.

Sarangi said that the Chief Minister has assured him of removing the traffic snarl on national highway, which connects three state of Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal.

The CM has said that he will personally speak to NHAI authorities to let the State Government repair the stretch of NH 6.

"Our meeting was fruitful as the CM promised that the State Government will speak to NHAI and make sure that the Government is allowed to carry the repair work," said Sarangi.

The MlA said that this stretch becomes virtually un-motorable after showers of rains and sometimes even lead to mishaps.

This stretch is used by heavy vehicles and long distance buses coming from different parts of Jharkhand for going to Bengal, Odisha through Ghatshila and Baharagora. Baharagora to Jamsola (in Odisha- a stretch of 6 km on NH-6) has led to a jam for the last several days after heavy containers were stuck in the potholes.

Incidentally, in July there was 120 hours jam on this particular stretch of NH after heavy vehicles were jammed in the potholes.

The first time legislator had given ultimatum to the Chief Minister for a stir assumes significance as the pothole ridden stretch between NH-33 (Jharia More to Baharagora around 10 km) and Baharagora to Jamsola has led to a jam after heavy containers were stuck in the potholes which were filled with rainwater, nearly 90 km from Jamshedpur.

"I have also demanded that due to the jam several farmers have been affected and health conditions have been affected due to the rising dust. Due to poor health and education scenario in Baharagora, people had to take ailing relatives to Jharpokharia and Baripada in Odisha and also had to send wards for studies in Odisha. However, due to the jam of National Highway people's life have been affected. I was forced to issue an ultimatum to the state Chief Minister for improving the stretch after nearly a month," said Kunal Sarangi.

Incidentally, in July there was 120 hours jam on this particular stretch of NH after heavy vehicles were stuck in the potholes which were filled with water.

Over 1 lakh vehicles including long distances buses between Jharkhand and Odisha ply on this stretch daily. The Baharagora MlA informed that in the month of July after the 120-hours the State Chief Minister had asked the National Highway Authority of India (which maintains the NH) officials to visit the stretch and take up immediate repair work.

But nothing has been done so far.
