The recently approved delimitation plan received mixed response of the ward councilors.
Notably, several ward councilors during the board meeting in September 2017 had protested against the delimitation proposal and had urged the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) heads to write to the State Government to take back the decision of confining the ward numbers.
However, the final gazette got published on October 31 confining the ward number from 55 to 53. Stating different reasons, the ward councilors had earlier mentioned that city residents will face number of problems after this new delimitation proposal.
Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijayawargia who earlier showed discontentment over the issue of new delimitation plan said,
“Since the new draft has been formulated after considering all technical aspects, we have to now work with this plan only.
After finally getting approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI), we cannot challenge this. We have to abide by the constitutional norms. Also, no proper initiatives were taken from RMC side collectively.”
Similarly, ward councilors said that despite sending letters to District Administration officials, no concrete action was taken to rule out the delimitation plan proposed without the consent of the ward councilors in August 2017.
“Since the District Administration officials had invited application asking for registering suggestions and grievances, in spite of individually registering the grievance, nothing was done.
We are now reluctant to follow this new delimitation plan after being familiar about its consequences,” said a ward councilor.
