Mistry wants Rahul as party chief

Though the party has so far publicly refrained from declaring Congress national vice president Rahul Gandhi as the next party president this could not prevent AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry from reading the writing on the wall.

In a meeting of party leaders in the run up of organisation elections the senior party functionary called for all possible efforts in that direction only. “We all have to erect a strong organisational structure of the party and instate Rahul Gandhi as Congress national president. The party would report to the Election Commission in this regard by October,” said Mistry on Wednesday when he was on one-day trip to Ranchi.

Stressing on the need to build strong party structure he added that by this only the Congress can achieve its ambition in 2019 general elections. “We will achieve the goal through our organisational structure in 2019. That is why Rahul Gandhi has expressed confidence in district returning officers who are coming from other States and conducting internal polls of the party elsewhere. We all have to prove Rahulji right through our commitment,” said the AICC leader.

Also present on the occasion was State returning officer Charan Das Mahant who called that conducting elections as per the schedule is the responsibility of all. “Primary unit elections are to be completed till August 21 and again by September 5, block level elections have to be completed. Representatives at district and State levels would be elected by September 15. We should try to work for consensus at every level and if it could not be arrived at then only voting can happen,” said the former Union Minister.

PCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat thanked the DROs for their assistance and said the authority in place is fully independent. “No one can interfere into their duties and we all are ensuring this. All the partymen have to build the organisation as per the expectations of Rahul Gandhi,” said Bhagat. PCC general secretary Alok Dubey, Rajesh Thakur and lal Kishore Nath Sahadeo along with other leaders were present in the meeting.
