Some unidentified miscreants looted `6.75 lakh from the staff of a private agency on Saturday afternoon near Hazaribagh Court, which is one of the most crowded areas of the town. The incident took place at about 12:15 pm on NH33 just in front of both Commissioner and SP Offices. Hazaribagh police has started investigating the case.

Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Jha said that ATM Machine operator and maintainer Tata Indices Agency has given the responsibility to Writer Safe Security Agency to fill cash into the different ATM’s of the town and adjacent areas.

On Saturday Tata Indices agency handed over a cheque of Rs5.5 lakh to security agency to withdraw it from the Axis bank branch. The security personnel parked the vehicle near Annada Chowk which is about one kilometer away from the bank. They reached to bank by foot and withdrew the money at about 12 noon. When they were coming back from the bank with cash kept in a bag two youths suddenly came on bike and snatched the bag from the employee of the security agency.

After the incident SP himself along with police team reached on spot and started search operation.

The borders of the district were sealed immediately and all the employees of both the agencies were taken into custody.

According to sources the custodian of Writer’s company Ramesh Mahto en-cashed the cheque from Axis Bank and handed it over to guard Jaynandan Prasad Mehta after coming out of the bank. Another guard Pankaj Gupta was also with them. All three then moved towards District Board Chowk with the bag and in the way the incident happened.

SP Jha said that the whole matter seems to be suspicious. There are many questions which need to be answered. Why the vehicle was parked one kilometer away from bank. Why the guards left their guns in the vehicle etc. Police is querying the staffs of the company but they have not yet given any satisfactory explanation of these questions. SP also said that that when they were going to withdraw the money why they kept 1.25 lakhs cash with them. So far two boys have been detained in suspicion but cash has not been recovered yet.
