Minors fake kidnapping to avoid parent’s wrath

Caught red-handed chewing tobacco, two minor siblings from Bokaro faked their own kidnapping in order to save themselves from the wrath of their parents–an incident that kept the police busy in investigation for several hours.

On Saturday morning, their grandmother caught them chewing tobacco and allegedly threatened to complain about their addiction to their parents.

The boys, one 11-year-old and the other 16-year-old, scripted an impromptu plan to save their skin. They went for a walk near Banaso Temple in Jarandih and made a phone call to their parents informing them that they were kidnapped by masked men in a Maruti Van–a scene straight out of a Bollywood flick. Later, they confessed to the police that they scripted the story as they were scared of being taken to task and wanted to divert the attention of their parents.

Officer In-Charge of Bokaro Thermal Police Station, Umesh Kumar Thakur said that the case kept the investigating team busy for at least 16 hours as the story sounded convincing and the police did not wish to take any chances with the safety of the boys.  “They called up their parents and said that they were kidnapped but they managed to flee. They were hoping that the incident will divert their parent’s attention from their dangerous addiction to their safety,” said Thakur.

The two boys were rescued and brought to the police station. They confessed their lie during interrogation, police said. No First Information Report was lodged in connection with the case. “While talking to the boys we realized that the story was scripted. It seemed childish and half-baked. The boys are now with their family. We, however, have lodged a General Diary in connection with the case,” said the officer.
