In a shocking incident, a minor girl was raped on late Friday evening in Hazaribagh town. It was raining heavily when the minor, Sangeeta (name changed), hailing from village Uridiri, Katkamsandi, who resides at Holy Cross VTI, was raped by a worker of a contractor engaged in some construction work near the spot.
Police was informed about the incident but before the police came, the staff and locals caught the culprit. Md. Saddam, a resident of Indra Jarba village of Sadar block was interrogated and he confessed to have committed the crime.
Police took the accused in custody and sent the victim to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The preliminary medical report confirmed rape and a case under POSCO Act was registered.
On Saturday morning the accused was produced before the court from where he was sent to Hazaribagh Central Jail. The statement of the victim was also recorded in the court in a closed room in presence of a lady magistrate.
On Friday evening, the victim went into the room where rabbits are kept, in VTI premises, to feed them. It was raining at that time when the accused entered into that room and locked it from inside. When the victim tried to save herself, the accused brutally beat her. The victim had several cut marks on her face and hands and her neck was swollen.
