Minister's fiat to improve sanitation service

Annoyed with the unprofessional approach of Essel Infra in carrying out sanitation work in different wards, Minister Urban Development, CP Singh during the inauguration of State Capital’s biggest Mini Transfer Station (MTS) asked the officials of Essel Infra to streamline the sanitation service by August 2017.

During the inauguration, the Minister also appealed to the denizens to maintain cleanliness as responsible residents while just being dependent upon the civic body. Mayor Asha lakra including Municipal Commissioner Shantanu Kumar Agrahari on Monday was present along with other dignitaries during the inauguration of fifth Mini Transfer Station (MTS) near Nagababa Khataal.

The officials of MSW-Essel Infra assured that soon an MTS near new market area will also be made operational. Also, Municipal Commissioner alongwith the Mayor inspected the parking arrangements from Shaheed Chowk to Kantatoli Chowk on Monday.

Besides, Agrahari during a meeting on July 31 instructed the officials to line-up the sanitation service in Capital City at the earliest. From removing encroachment from major avenues to installing Global Positioning System (GPS) trackers in municipal vehicles, officials have been told to rationalize all mandatory arrangements by the end of August.

In an attempt to achieve the target of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by December 2017 in all the wards, Agrahari instructed the officers to ensure that all spots at each ward where people are found defecating in open on a daily basis must be converted into playgrounds.

Similarly, in a wake of rising concern over usage of poly bags where the State government is planning to ensure blanket ban on polythene, Municipal Commissioner instructed the enforcement team members to visit market places daily and conduct checking drive to ensure that vendors are not using or selling polythene bags that are less than 50 microns. In addition, prohibiting the sale of poultry products along the roadsides, no vendors will be allowed to sell poultry products infringing the guidelines of newly formulated Municipal licence (for sale of flesh, fish and poultry) Act 2017.

Meanwhile, Essel Infra, GM, Arun Singh has assured to streamline the solid waste management service covering all 55 wards by August end. Singh further said that construction of MTS at different locations have been speeded up. On Monday, additional seven wards (20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26 and 32) have been taken up by the firm. The company personnel have assured to complete its 90 percent work by the second week of August.

Notably, besides launching a toll free number (18003457014) for registering grievances, no additional work has been taken up by the firm in July. Moreover, the company was also supposed to initiate the service of user charge collection from August 1. Interestingly, the company by far even after getting the debar notice is yet to boost the number of human resource personnel. Out of 13 proposed MTS only five MTS have been made functional at demarcated locations.

However, considering the work progress of the company, Municipal Commissioner has notified that until the sanitation work at 18 wards will not get streamlined, no other wards will be handed to Essel Infra regardless of anything.

On the other hand, RMC Officer (Health), Kiran Kumari has lodged a FIR at Kotwali Police Station against A to Z which previously managed the waste disposal service here. Notably, during the audit, it was found that A to Z including two other consultancies had collected money in the name of big automobiles but as per the records, all these vehicles that have been registered with RMC are two wheelers.
