Health, Medical Education and Family Planning Department Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi offered Gudia Bai a monetary assistance of Rs 50,000 in his personal capacity on Monday and pledged the best available medical treatment to her apart from grant of Rs 12,000 for a toilet at his home after he visited to Sadar Hospital to see the ailing lady under treatment.
Chandravanshi also said that the doctor in RIMS had already been suspended and criminal procedures were on against him for approaching to the patient in extremely casual way, treating her wrongly and causing her to suffer and losing faith in the government run hospitals.
Gudia Bai, a victim of medical negligence which was not at all unusual in various hospitals across the country, though extremely avoidable and utterly unethical by a medical professional, was admitted in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital a week back where her right kidney was operated allegedly by mistake in place of ailing left one which had been detected with stones, by a resident doctor Arshad Jamal on July 18.
Gudia (32) was rushed to RIMS on July 15 after she acquired severe pain in left half of abdomen. She was detected with stone kidney after investigation, and was operated on July 18 in Urology Department of RIMS. Ironically, the mistake of operating right kidney in place of left occurred due to negligent doctor looked at the X-Ray paper of kidneys upside down.
“Though this is a human error which RIMS is not very fond of, this is also an unpardonable mistake and RIMS administration has been taking due action against the doctor,” said the Minister after he spoke to Gudia in Sadar Hospital where she has been offered free treatment.
“Gudia had lost faith in a government hospital. However, she agreed to get admitted in Sadar Hospital after the Health Minister assured of free, fair and careful treatment,” said her husband Pradeep Kumar who along with two of their children were being also taken care of food and lodging meanwhile.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shiva Shanker Harijan said after Chandravanshi’s visit that Gudia was not very comfortable in going to RIMS for another operation. “She is not at all mentally ready to go to the RIMS for operation of her ailing kidney. However, she will remain here in Sadar Hospital until her wounded right kidney which is expected to take around a week from now. She will go back to home and further course of action would be decided after that whether when she is ready to undergo another operation,” said Harijan.
