MET Dept predicts light rain in coming days

After feeling the effects of early summer in the month of March, city residents will get respite from sweltering heat. According to the prediction of Ranchi MET centre on Wednesday, drizzles at isolated places across the State will bring down the mercury level keeping the weather conditions cool for approximately four days.

“Thunderstorm with light rainfall at isolated places will bring some respite for the next three to four days; residents will get relief from the scorching heat. Due to high moisture content level, cloudy sky will subsist and temperature during the daytime and night will remain subtle in the days to come,” said, Director, MET Ranchi Observatory Centre, BK Mondal.

“There are chances that the cloudy sky will persist for the next four days. Wind flow to an extent also determines the temperature level. Rainstorm will affect Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Ranchi, Giridih, Chaibasa, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad districts. Hailstorm and strong winds with approximately 40-50 Kmph or more speed will hit these places,” added, Mondal.

Notably, the temperature observed in the month of March and first week of April was quite high in comparison to the last 10 years record. According to the weather experts, normally in the month of March and April, the temperature varies from 30 degree Celsius to 35 degree Celsius only. However, breaking all the past records, Ranchi recorded 39 degree Celsius, Jamshedpur and other few other districts as well broke the records registering high temperature soaring up to 40 degree Celsius.

However, instant change in weather and partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery development is a result of high moisture level and disturbances at the North-eastern side.”The east west trough at mean sea level from southeast UP to Manipur across Jharkhand Gangetic WB and other States is extending up to 0.9 Km above mean sea level and is one prime cause of weather change,” the Director, MET Ranchi Centre added.

On Wednesday, though heat wave conditions prevailed at several places but the mercury level dipped down to 4-5 degree Celsius in the afternoon. Highest maximum temperature 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded at Daltonganj whereas Ranchi registered lowest minimum temperature 23.5 degree Celsius. Cloudy sky covered approximately all the districts of the State. Weather experts have denied the chance of heavy rainfall at present.
