A menstrual hygiene awareness campaign was launched by Karam Jyoti, a social organization in Dhanbad aiming to empower women and adolescent girls. “Our campaign will continue till September 15 in coal capital Dhanbad,” informed Shalini a member of the NGO. “As a part of the campaign, we have started fund collection for sanitary pads from the students and the employees of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. We are also accepting pads as donations which will be distributed among the needy young girls and the village women nearby IIT (ISM) Dhanbad,” she said.

The funds that will be collected would be used to purchase sanitary pads and Menstrupedia magazines which will later be distributed during the awareness lecture programme of the organization across the city. “Menstrupedia magazine is a very interesting and age-friendly guidebook for young girls to understand the menstrual cycle and related health information,” said Shalini.

Privilege boxes have also been kept at several public places, where one can drop packets of sanitary pads. Those who wish to give monetary contribution can do so in cash (and take the receipt) or through online transfer by scanning the QR code provided in the poster at the site."If anybody wishes to join us for this noble move and for collection and distribution events he can contact us anytime," she added.

Shalini along with other members of NGO appealed to the mass to come forward and join hands to create a change.
