Mega lok Adalat in Palamau from July 24

Published on:

A mega lok Adalat is going to be held in the Palamau civil courts during July 24-28, when all judges will be sitting in their own courtrooms. Court officials will be available from 3 pm till offices shut down, except on July 28, which will be a full-day Sunday lok Adalat.

While giving details, Principal District & Sessions Judge Vishnukant Sahay was asked whether the lok Adalat was any use, seeing that the majority of lawyers do not take it seriously but consider it a legal spectacle.

Sahay first declined comment but on persuasion said it had served well and was considered valuable by those who benefited from it. The rural population of Palamau has had to face more Naxal Jan Adalats than the lok Adalat, which have managed at least hundred compromises or settlements in cases. A mega lok Adalat held last year saw 500 cases disposed of. Sahay said this figure speaks for itself.
