Eminent ophthalmologists Dr. Bharti Kashyap and Dr. BP Kashyap from the Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital (KMEH) organised a two day free eye check up camp alongwith Ramchandra Chandravansi Welfare Trust. The camp was held at Sohri Chandravansi Hospital, Palamu on January 3 and 4. It was organised for patients with cataract and those losing their eyesight due to diabetes.  The team of doctors also included Dr. Pretesh Pronoy and Dr. Sunil Kumar.

More than 2,000 people from the far flung villages of Nawada, Kala and Bishrampur gathered at the camp to get their eyes tested. Using state of the art technology, 208 cataract patients were operated upon in the camp. Another 215 suffering from high blood sugar levels were advised accordingly.

Patients with diabetes and high blood pressure will initially be treated at the Daltonganj Sadar Hospital. Those suffering from diabetic retinopathy will be treated at KEMH on 14 January, 12 February and 12 March in Ranchi where free laser treatment and injections will be provided.

Speaking on the occasion Founder Director of KMEH Dr. Bharti Kashyap said that in the camp Phaco method of treatment is being used. Health minister Ramchandra Chandravansi had urged them to organise the camp in the rural pockets of Palamu. “KEMH has been organizing free cataract camps in the areas of Palamu and Garwah for the past four decades. In the interior pockets of Jharkhand including Saryu and Saranda action plans Ranchi, Khunti, Chaibasa and other areas, such camps have been successfully organised and we will continue to do the same in the future,” she said.

These camps were started by the late Dr. Bharat Prasad Kashyap and the tradition is now being carried forward by Dr. Birendra Kashyap and Dr. Bharti Kashyap. Thousands of patients with cataract have been treated using Phaco method. This year those losing their eyesight due to diabetes are also being treated, said Dr Kashyap.
