The State Arts, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs department, along with sports associations, on Monday held its first meeting concerning the 35th National Games scheduled at Kerala for February 21 to March 7 next year.

The decision to sanction certain grants to the game associations of Jharkhand was also announced here. As many as 12 associations registered under the Jharkhand Olympic Association and five NGOs have applied for this grant.

“We will be conducting a meeting for finalising the distribution of these sports funds within 15 days,” said State Arts, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Director Ashok Kumar Verma.

Verma also conceded that special training camps ahead of the upcoming national games would be organised at the state capital in three phases from August onwards. Verma said, “Most of the games would probably start from October. The first phase will be for 15 days. Those who qualify the first phase will be trained for 40 days in the second phase followed with the selection at the third phase of 20 to 21 days training, which is to be the final selection for National Games.”

Depending upon the type of the game, the routine of the camp would be planned.

Indicating the world-class sports complex Khelgaon at Hotwar, Jharkhand Olympic Association Treasurer Madhukant Pathak said, “We have requested the State Government officials to allow our players interested in participating at the 35 National Games to utilise the available sports infrastructure and equipment.”

Explaining the necessity of this meeting called by State Arts, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Vandana Dadel, Madhukant Pathak said, “It has been noticed that the state government and sports associations work in parallel relations wherein there is no mutual understanding which creates communication gaps. The need for cooperation between the two group authorities called for this discussion today.”

State Sports Manual Programme of 2013-14 year was released by Vandana Dadel on this occasion. Dadel also went through the sports audit report of the last three years.
