Medinirai Medical College faces staff shortage

Published on:

Medinirai medical college (MMC) at Pokhraha Daltonganj is faced with a manpower shortage following the transfer of four doctors from this college, sources said on Sunday.

Among the four doctors transferred from here, three are associate professors while one is an assistant professor.

The three associate professors who have been transferred from MMC are K K Singh (surgery), Sunil Kumar (ortho) and Nutan Dayal (obs and gynae).

Assistant professor Anjana Kumari in pathology too stands transferred from MMC.

The crux of the transfer is that the government has not notified any posting on the posts which fall vacant following this transfer of four doctors.

The transfer of four has reduced the number of associate professors from nine to six while it has reduced the number of assistant professors from 16 to 15 only in the MMC.

Principal of the MMCH Jyoti Ranjan Prasad said, “The health, medical education and family welfare department, Government of Jharkhand, has last evening notified the transfers of four of our doctors."

He said the notification does not mention any new posting against these four leaving from this MMCH.

Once these four get relieved of their duties here these seats will fall vacant, added the principal.

Asked what impact these transfers of four would be on the MMCH, Prasad said a visit of the team of assessment and evaluation of the National Medical Commission is due here and the team will be unhappy to find these four positions vacant.

Sources said the team of the National Medical Commission is set to assess and evaluate government medical colleges before the NEET.

The principal said the National Medical Commission is too sharp and quick to note deficiency in a government medical college and here in the MMC vacancy of four will mean a big deficiency which he said the National Medical Commission would not be taking any lightly.

Sources said the MMC Palamu has already a long list of drawbacks marked and noted by the National Medical Commission in its previous visit here and these four new vacancies will add to the woes of this college.

The National Medical Commission had already stopped its admission for the session 2020 - 21 on the grounds of a plethora of challenges. A senior doctor, requesting anonymity, said the state government should post doctors on these four seats without delay as no one knows when the team of the National Medical Commission descends here as it comes 'without making any noise of its visit.
