Medical report awaited in Bariatu gangrape case

Ranchi police are waiting for report from the four-member medical board after it examined the Bariatu gang rape victims on Tuesday. These two girls were allegedly raped by a group of six on Sunday night. The tests have confirmed rape, according to sources, but police offcials are not making a definite statement yet, citing unavailability of medical reposts.

According to the statements given by the victims, they arrived at Belmunda Pahari in Bariatu with two boys they knew. It is where the perpetrators found them, and later overpowered the boys by scaring them with firearms and knives, then went on to outrage the modesty of the girls.

“The circumstances which led to the incident are inconsequential now. It is a grievous offense and the culprits will be brought to justice,” stated Superintendent of Police (City) Jaya Roy.

As of now, we have got some descriptions about the rapists and are looking for them, whereas the boys with the victims seem innocent, prima facie, she further added.

A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar) Vikash Chandra Srivastava began investigations regarding the case after a First Information Report was filed at Bariatu police station against unknown individuals. Meanwhile, eight persons have been taken into custody in relation with the case on grounds of suspicion.

“Those detained are shady characters that usually roam and drink alcohol near the crime scene. They have been picked up for getting more information about the night of the incident,” Srivastava said.
