An inner circular road is likely to come up in Ranchi as public sector consultancy major MECON limited has been roped in by Urban Development department to prepare construction of the road and also suggest ways to improve flow of traffic on five important roads of Ranchi. The public-sector-undertaking will prepare a detailed project report and will submit it to the department for further actions.
“The broad objective is how to develop Ranchi into a capital besides developing several amenities along the roads. The idea is to develop inner circular road. They will submit DPR is six months,” said Secretary, UD, Ajay Singh. The Government of India enterprise will conduct a survey to study four roads — Birsa Munda Airport to Birsa Chowk, Raj Bhawan to Birsa Chowk via Kishorganj, Kantatoli to Raj Bhawan via Circular Road, Raj Bhawan to Booty More via Bariatu and Raj Bhawan to Hinu Chowk via Main Road.
The survey is likely to focus on the possibilities of widening the road, developing both sides of the roads, requirement of street lights, underground cabling, developing pavements and footpath on the streets. Decongesting the street to effectively address traffic woes on these roads especially Main Road will be addressed by MECON. “We will begin survey in about 15 to 20 days. The steel company had given presentation on scope for improvement in the city’s traffic conditions and alternate arrangements, beautification and ways to make the aforementioned stretches motorable in all circumstances. According to sources, the presentation also highlighted requisite number of stops for different types of vehicles that are part of public transport system in the capital.
The Secretary of Urban Development department expressed State Government’s resolve in improving traffic conditions on the streets of capital and said that encroachments will be removed without any exception. Removing encroachments from city roads, however, has been the biggest hurdle for the administration in the recent times. The Jharkhand High Court has also issued orders to the authorities for the same but due to some reasons, political or otherwise no concrete steps could be taken in this regard.
