Public Sector Undertaking, MECON ltd, will be keeping a close eye on contractors empanelled for beautification and renovation work of Pahari Mandir. The consulting company owned by Government of India has been roped in to keep temple construction works on the right path as the capital’s centre of faith is slated for massive overhauling and transformation into engineering marvel.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti and MECON ltd on Wednesday appointing the PSU as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the construction work of the temple situated on the highest peak in Ranchi. The contract’s duration is the duration of the construction work of the temple and the consulting major will be given honorarium by the committee for the services.

“They (MECON ltd) have been appointed as PMC for 30 months and over the period of the duration they will be cooperating with the contractor to maintain higher standards of quality in construction work. Their empanelment has been just to ensure quality and safety of the structure,” said Treasurer of the Samiti, Hari Jalan.

With MoU the committee’s job has been restricted to providing material to the Delhi based contractor, M/s RC Seth, and the PMC will take over all supervising activity on behalf of the committee.

A team of engineers will be deputed by the PMC at the Pahari Mandir to oversee construction activities. Among the safety concerns that will be implemented is reducing the weight of the structure on the hillock by 25 per cent.

The committee is likely to extend scope the MoU as it focuses on a number of projects to renovate the premises and make them more effective in terms of resource utilization and exploiting the topography for improving amenities for devotees flocking the place.

“We may extend their responsibility to other types of work however that depends on their performance. There are works like creating water harvesting system, providing facilities to elderly, etc which we will be done at the temple premises,” maintained the Treasurer.
