Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Mayor Asha Lakra has complained to Development Secretary about some officials not taking part in the civic body’s regular work and also sought action against them.
Amidst the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19, Lakra called a meeting of officials and councillors regarding drinking water and sanitation to be improved in the city during the ongoing summer season. RMC Municipal Commissioner, Mukesh Kumar was also invited to participate in the meeting with other senior officials. But neither the Municipal Corporation officials nor any workers came to the meeting. Regarding this, the Mayor also sent letters to the officials and sought answers but no one has given any response yet. In such a situation, the Mayor has written a letter to the Development Secretary, demanding action against such officers, so that this does not happen in future.
According to the provisions contained in the Jharkhand Municipal Act, the Mayor had instructed the City Commissioner to call for an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee but the Municipal Commissioner also did not forward the file related to the letter given by the councillors. Lakra said that the Municipal Commissioner is neither complying with the provisions contained in the Jharkhand Municipal Act nor respecting the instructions of the Mayor.
“He also did not take the emergency meeting of the Standing Committee seriously to prevent the spread of Corona infection. The meeting was called to discuss on the topics like cleaning, sanitization, PPE kits, masks, hand gloves, sanitizer, availability of sodium hypochlorite chemical and purchase of one thousand oxygen cylinders for Corona patients, including future needs, in the emergency meeting of the Standing Committee,” said Lakra.
The emergency meeting of the Standing Committee which was scheduled on April 17 will now again be held on April 19 under the chairmanship of the Mayor. This meeting will be virtual and everyone will join online through Google Meet.
Now it will have to be seen whether the Municipal Corporation officials will participate in this or not. Since the Municipal Corporation officials and employees were not involved in the meetings being convened for the last several days.
However, the Additional Municipal Commissioner has also issued a letter related to the emergency meeting of the standing committee and has given information to all the members of the committee to attend the meeting.
