Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), Mayor Asha Lakra has objected to the inclusion of revenue related topics in the agenda of the civic body without her permission. Addressing a press meet held on Thursday, the Mayor raised many questions on the Municipal Commissioner in this regard.
The Mayor said that in 2017 also the then Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar had introduced the proceedings in the Council meeting. “The Mayor then obtained legal intent from Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, A Marirputham and sent it to the then Municipal Commissioner.
He then not only respected the law, but placed it before the members of the council meeting only after taking a final decision from the Mayor on the procedure to be instituted in the standing committee and corporation council meeting,” she added.
Lakra said that she is seeking correspondence to the Municipal Commissioner keeping in mind the provisions of the law but to no avail.
“The Municipal Commissioners use political language by not explicitly answering any of my questions. I have not given permission to present the five agenda, which have been included in the meeting of the Corporation Council in the meeting of the Council. I have sought a response within 24 hours after show-causing the Municipal Commissioner on the matter,” she added.
The Mayor said that under the Jharkhand Municipal Act-2011, the Mayor is the Chairman of the Corporation Council and it is not valid to include any of the subjects in the Council meeting without the permission of the Chairman.
“In the JMM-Congress coalition government in the State, the Municipal Commissioners consider themselves supreme. Whenever the authorities have tried to serve their interests in the civic body by following the law, I have always raised my voice on those subjects. All of you are well aware of the mistakes made by RMC officials in the past.
The coming time also, the officials of the civic body will continue to raise their voice on the wrongdoing. It is my duty as Mayor to ensure transparency in the works related to the corporation and the schemes prepared for the urban area. Money should not be misused by the general public,” said Lakra.
