Right after taking the charge of Ranchi Mayor, Asha lakra is on the job to accomplish the promises which she made during her election campaign to the people in the areas such as establishment of proper drainage and sewerage system, removal of garbage heaps, improving city law and order and increasing city greenery.
To address city perennial problem heap of garbage, overflowing and stinking dustbins on every street and pavement, lakra on Sunday took the broom to clean the streets herself. After cleaning the roads of Piska More and its adjoining areas, new Mayor on the second day (Monday) continued the campaign at lalpur Chowk to Kuchery Chowk via Circular Road. The aspiration behind her move is to drive home the message ‘cleanliness begins at home’. lakra accompanied by ward councillors and some of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials is carrying out the five day cleaning drive in different wards.
“Unless we do not make effort to clean our surrounding it is impossible to dream of a garbage free city. I have promised my people to make city a better place to live in and this is a small step in this direction,” said the Mayor.
Notably, lakra is not only prompting the residents to keep their surrounding clean but also making it clear that the assigned sweepers have to be alert and effective in carrying out their duties efficiently to improve the situation. Some low-lying areas of the State Capital are flooded with the onset of monsoon season. The runoff blocks several drains causing problems for the people.
“The flame of clean and green city lighted up by the city’s new Mayor will be taken to its end. We are providing our round the clock support to make her drive successful and had also ensured her to carry out the cleaning regularly after the drive,” said Councillor of ward number 19, Asha Devi.
After the cleaning drive, lakra convened a meeting with the officials of Urban Development department to know about the status of the current projects.
“I do not have a magical wand in my hand through which can bring the desired changes at once. At present my focus is to get details of the entire ongoing project and trying to figure out its loop holes and then plan my future step accordingly,” added lakra.
Meanwhile, the new Mayor is gearing up for the standing committee meeting schedule on July 10.
