Mayor, Dy Mayor snub JMM for calling RMC as anti-minority

Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Friday contradicted the allegation of the JMM that RMC discriminates on religious lines in carrying development works in the corporation area.

On Thursday the JMM had alleged the RMC controlled by the BJP always keep minority dominated areas neglected in terms of development works and civic amenities. The JMM also demanded an audit of the functioning of the RMC.

Retorting the allegation Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya held a press conference at RMC office and submitted the list of civic amenities, developmental works and other facilities extended in the minority dominated areas.

They also submitted the report of works undertaken by RMC under 13th and 14th finance commission of state government.

“RMC has an objective to serve people irrespective of their caste and religion. The BJP government headed by Raghubar Das had constructed the Haj House for minorities in Ranchi. There are central government’s schemes like housing scheme and toilet construction which are available to beneficiaries irrespective of their caste and creed,” said the Ranchi Mayor.

The Deputy Mayor in the other hand referred the example of Hindpiri locality where cemented road, blacktop road and drainage have been constructed at a large scale in the last few years.

There are many minority dominated localities under ward number 10, 15, 17, 35 among others.

“How can someone make such kind of baseless allegations? The area-wise projects either completed or underway or sanctioned are available on record. Councillors of these wards have participated in the foundation laying programme. Even today road and drainage construction work was started in ward number 35 in presence of local councillor,” said deputy mayor.

The Deputy Mayor alleged that the JMM-Congress-RJD government headed by chief minister Hemant Soren released only Rs 29 for RMC under 15th finance commission which is too small an amount considering the size of RMC comprising 53 wards.

“Now the JMM is in power so it is very easy for the government to make separate allotments for the development of minority areas,” said the Mayor.
