The JVM has expressed its commitment to fight against the land Acquisition Bill being brought by the BJP-led Union Government and decided to make it an issue to be fought from grassroots to top level. The party in its endeavour would take along likeminded Opposition parties.
Making his intentions clear during a sit-in before Raj Bhawan on Tuesday, JVM supremo Babulal Marandi criticised the Act. “The Government is looking adamant about the policy which is detrimental for the people of the State in particular. It would ruin the interests of the poor farmers of Jharkhand. We have decided to take the issued to the people and organise series of meetings at block and district levels. Even then the step is not taken back then we would march to Delhi taking the issue,” said Marandi after the dharna.
Though the protest was organised in the name of Opposition parties but barring few smaller outfits such as Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch of Bandhu Tirkey and some left parties none major leader of Congress or JMM attended it.
However the party defended the outcome. “Ours was the move to take all along on an issue which is against the interests of the majority of the people and being brought despite huge opposition of it. We had given a call and all those who felt the need to add voice to the peoples’ call came. Those who have not come may be due to their political compulsions but we know they are also against the land Acquisition Act,” said JVM general secretary Pradeep Yadav. The party has not decided dates for further protest at block and district levels as of now.
