Leader of opposition in Jharkhand assembly, Babulal Marandi, today made serious allegations against the state government and the administrative system in a special press conference in Giridih. He said that the State government is giving contract to criminals to attack him and his family, his close ones.
Marandi said that he has received information from some reliable sources, according to which some highly corrupt and criminal-minded officials associated with the top leadership of the Jharkhand government are engaged in hatching a conspiracy against him, his family and people close to him. He alleged that these officials enjoy government protection and are resorting to organised schemes to intimidate him, ranging from conspiracy to attack, false cases, character assassination, and preparation of fake sting operations.
Marandi said that the government has become active against him because he has publicly exposed many scams and corruption cases. These include the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand liquor scam, rackets related to illegal mining and smuggling of sand, stone, land and coal, widespread irregularities in examinations like JSSC and JPSC, and financial loot in the name of rural schemes.
He also said that when he raised these issues prominently in public interest, his activism started making some people in power uncomfortable.
Marandi also reminded that this is not the first time that efforts are being made to silence him. He said that earlier he had received information about a conspiracy to carry out a deadly attack against him by militants in Shikarpada area. Taking the intelligence seriously at that time, the Central government had entrusted the responsibility of his security to the CRPF. Now once again, an attempt is being made to silence him through false cases and plans to defame him.
He also reminded that even when he lost his young son at the hands of militants, he did not bow down or stop - in such a situation it is impossible to shake him with these cowardly and vile conspiracies.
He appealed to the people and said that this is the time that the aware people and media of the state should recognize these conspiracies and play an active role in protecting democracy. According to him, the attempt to suppress the voice of the opposition is a gross insult to the fundamental values of democracy, and this fight is no longer just his, but the fight of every citizen of Jharkhand.
