The politics of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand has once again heated up. Expressing concern over the changing demography in Pakur and Sahibganj districts of Santhal Pargana due to infiltration, former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi has said to introduce National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the BJP government is voted back to power in Jharkhand. Marandi shared this information through his official Twitter handle.
Babulal Marandi said, 'The situation is very serious in Pakur and Sahibganj. The situation is worrying. The existence of tribals is in danger due to demographic change. Bangladeshi infiltrators have taken the entire area of Santal Pargana under their control. As soon as the BJP government is formed in Jharkhand, a decisive battle will be fought against them and they will be selectively thrown out of the state by bringing NRC.’
“The issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators has now attracted national media attention. I have been saying for a long time that this is a very serious problem. We need to get rid of this problem completely as soon as possible. But unfortunately some people are giving protection to these infiltrators for their political interests. As soon as BJP comes to power, they will definitely bring NRC!” Marandi tweeted.
Babulal Marandi launched a direct attack on the Hemant Soren government, saying, 'We have received information, under the patronage of Congress and JMM, to increase our vote bank, especially Bangladeshi infiltrators are given lease after arranging government land, then get ration cards made.
According to media reports, Bangladeshi infiltrators come to Malda via Motipur in West Bengal. From there via Kaliachak, take the road at Farakka turn and directly reach Nayabasti Rajmahal. There is no check post on this way either. That's why no one stops Bangladeshi infiltrators. They very easily leave Bangladesh and enter Jharkhand via West Bengal and get mixed with the tribal population. As a result, in many villages of Sahibganj, Hindu population has become minority and Muslim population has become majority.
This is not that only Marandi has raised the issue of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, but other senior BJP leader have raised the issue. Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Deoghar in February this year has said that population of tribal people in the Santhal Parganas have declined to around 24% from 35% earlier.
BJP leaders have on several occasions demanded a mini national register of citizens in Santhal Parganas, a political stronghold of the ruling JMM and Congress, to identify illegal migrants. This will be a major poll agenda for the saffron outfit in the upcoming general and assembly elections, party functionaries said, seeking anonymity.
