In the past few years, the brutality of Naxal violence has become evident in a big way. Maoism, which started off as a people’s movement, has now become a nearly Rs 4,500 crore organised extortion business in the form of ‘levy’ in the different parts of the country, sources said.
According to a home ministry report Maoists and their commanders collect a whopping 1000-1500 crores Rupees as levy money from different states of India each year and if the levy collection drive is increased as informed by the Naxalites the revenue collection drive might add another 100 crores from different states.
