Maoists lock up cops' houses

A posse of security forces has been deployed at village Mayapur under Naudeeha police station in Palamu as part of the confidence building measures for residents.

locals said that last night a band of armed CPI Maoists descended upon this village and locked four houses of policemen who were posted outside Palamu. The policemen, barring one, were not at home when the Maoists locked their houses. None of the inmates of these houses were insulted or harassed.

Sources revealed that the Maoists did this to remind the cops’ families that policemen had rendered lives of their family members miserable. Sources also said that Maoists left behind hand written notes. DIG police Palamu Saket K Singh when asked for comment said, “The Maoists made this attempt to lock a few houses at Mayapur but with the intervention of the police these locks have been removed and life in these four houses is once again back to normal.”

The DIG reiterated that the deployment of security forces at Mayapur would continue. He did not give the exact duration of the deployment here. On being further queried if this lock-business of the Maoist had any panchayat poll intent, the DIG Saket was cautious and said, “Panchayat poll is here. That’s all.” Sources said that Maoists locking the houses of policemen is a rare act in Palamu. The Maoists locally call this action as ‘Tala Maar Deeya’. They have also acted the same way in past, with houses of the poor or that those of their rival cadres.
