A Special Branch Police Constable was allegedly abducted and shot dead by the CPI(Maoists) in Gumla, police said on Tuesday. Constable Badrinath Tiwari was taken away on Monday night from his house at Malam village by the suspected CPI (Maoists) who later shot him dead, said officer in-charge of Chainpur Police Station Shyam Bihari Manjhi.

The incident, according to the police, occurred around 8 pm on Monday where Maoist supporting pamphlets were also found near the body which was later sent for post-mortem, the police said.

Tiwari's relatives alleged that they were sitting near the house on Monday and the Maoists came and hit Tiwari on his head with the butt of the gun. They also beat up Tiwari's relatives and locked them inside the house before abducting the constable.

A few years ago, another inspector posted in Khunti district was abducted and beheaded by the Maoists.

Tiwari hailed from Palamau's Nenua village and was posted in Gumla as constable with Jharkhand Armed Police-7.
