The CPI (Maoist) has increased its activity in Churchu block of Hazaribagh district. last week the Naxal group had torched 6 hyva trucks, one JCB, and mixer machine of Bhardwaj Construction Company, engaged in construction of road. On Sunday night, they blew up the bridge on Dhordhorwa river situated in Bedam panchayat of the block. According to sources, on Sunday evening a group of Maoists reached Julmi village and started searching some villagers, who according to them were police informers. When they failed to do so, they torched two houses in that village.

After coming out of the village, they stayed near the bridge over Dhordhorwa river. This bridge connects Churchu block with Tati-Jhariya. Suddenly the villagers heard a sound of huge explosion. When the Naxals left the place they found that the bridge has been damaged. According to sources, there are 40 to 50 Maoists active in this block under the leadership of Mithilesh Singh. On Monday night and on 30th April night during their action against Bhardwaj Construction Company the members of the group were enchanting slogans like ‘Stop looting Public Money’, ‘Maoism Zindabad’ etc.

With these two major incidents Maoists have challenged Jharkhand Police. In first attack they disturbed the road construction activity going on in this naxal prone block and with this recent attack they have actually cut many villages of the block with the headquarter. This bridge was near to completion. According to the sources contractor Pawan Singh has taken its construction work costing about Rs. 32 lakhs. The Maoists have also destroyed items kept at the construction site.

When contacted DSP Rural Satish Chandra Jha confirmed the blowing up of the bridge but not said a single word about torching of two houses. Hazaribagh police has taken these incidents seriously and according to sources soon it will act to remove the fear of Maoists among the villagers which has increased with these activities.
