Explosives, arms seized
A joint team of the West Singhbhum police and the CRPF 197 battalion arrested an area commander of the outlawed outfit, CPI-Maoist, from Kolaburu near village Pokharia under Jeteya police station and recovered explosives and arms from his possession.
A resident of Giridih district, the area commander was identified as Diwakar alias Kishore Kusku, a known explosives expert. The forces seized a country-made pistol, two live cartridges, 14 detonators, and `19,160 in cash from his possession.
The Superintendent of Police of West Singhbhum, NK Singh, said that the Naxal commander belongs to Motilal Soren squad. The arrested ultra is an expert in landmine explosion. He was involved in the 2006 landmine explosion at Karampada in which 12 CRPF jawans lost their lives. He has also confessed his involvement in several cases also.
“He is a key functionary of the CPI-Maoist and on the basis of a tip-off we nabbed him near the jungle," said Singh.
Meanwhile, the police have filed cases the criminal law (amendment) Act and the Indian Explosives (amendment) Act against him.
Police said that security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on the movement of the Naxlites. “There has been a substantial increase in Maoist movement in the areas. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,” said another official.
It may be mentioned here that Bandhgaon is a part of the rebels' corridor in the district of West Singhbhum. As the place is mostly dense jungle, the Maoists consider it a safe haven for holding meetings and organising training camps on a regular basis.
Based on the leads provided by the arrested Naxalite, a joint team of police and paramilitary forces are raiding at different places in West Singhbhum, sources said.
