Maoist bandh hits coal industry

Published on:

The two day long call of bandh given by the Maoists passed peacefully at least in Hazaribagh. No incident took place till the filing of this report. The normal life in town and adjoining areas was as usual but the bandh affected the coal industry and caused heavy revenue loss to the government.

long route vehicles were off the road since the night of April 5 and till tonight there is no hope of running of long route buses too. In CCl areas due to this band call loading and transporting of coal almost stopped. Coal loaded trucks came out of the collieries and get parked before the transport offices or at line hotels.

In the naxal prone areas of Hazaribagh district effect of this band was visible because villagers of remote areas turned out in less numbers in comparison to other days in the block headquarters. During these two days political activity also stopped at naxal prone block headquarters.

Though the MCC has cleared it that health and education services will not be covered in this band but the number of students turnout on Saturday and patient turnout at Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh and PHCs was much less than the normal days.

The administration was on alert and deployment of police forces at NH and other highways was clearly visible. People traveled short distances but avoided long journey during this band. Essential services ran as usual.
