Taking U-turn a day after the allegations made by Manish Agrawal, one of the accused in Ichhita murder case, his family members said that Manish was never tortured by police. Manish had reportedly alleged that he was given third degree torture at the police station and was made to sign on blank papers.
“I had called them today to know the facts in this regard but they said that they have any grievance against the police and Manish was never tortured in the Police Station,” said City DSP Shambhu Singh. Manish according to the Police was freed by 11:30 pm on Wednesday and on the request of the family members one PCR van was asked to escort their vehicle to their destination, he added.
“He was definitely questioned by the police as he is a named accused in the FIR lodged by family members of the deceased but was never tortured in the Police Station,” said the City DSP. They must have registered their complaint before the higher officials rather than going to the media and mess up the things, he said.
Family members of Manish on the other hand were not ready to comment on the issue of torture and reiterated that Manish was innocent and had nothing to do with the suicide of Ichhita. “I don’t want to comment on that issue, but now, since Manish has been released it means he is innocent. Now we expect that police will not bother us anymore,” said Manish’s sister Priyanka Agrawal.
The family members admitted that Manish was depressed after he came out of the Police Station, he might have said something before the media in depression on Wednesday night but he never said that he was subjected to torture by the police.
Manish, according to reports published in vernacular dailies, was detained in for 60 hours and given third degree tortures. The reports stated that the police used to beat him for the whole night and was asked irrelevant questions. He was also pressurized by the police to admit that Ichhita ended her life because of him, the report said.
Meanwhile, the police was still clueless regarding the reasons behind the death of Ichhita and are still trying to find out the reasons behind the suicide.
“We are trying to find out the reasons for which Ichhita was compelled to end her life,” the DSP said.
