Outgoing chief of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) is looking to have an active role in Congress politics. After his forced departure from the Board the former Youth Congress leader also counted on his good works in the office.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Mani Shankar said that he did not want the issue of his stay to damage the party and thus choose to relinquish his post. “I am a loyal worker of the Congress. The post is not bigger than the party and making the issue graver it would have damaged it badly. The situation led to my resignation,” he said. When asked about his future role, Mani Shnakar said that it was up to the party to decide and he was ready to take any responsibility given to him.
Mani Shankar had submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Hemant Soren following his misunderstanding with PCC chief Sukhdeo Bhagat. He also on the occasion counted the ‘historic works’ done at the JSPCB in the field to environmental protection. “We banned polythene uses in the State and planted 10 lakh saplings in a single day on Harit Diwas. The board also recommended the Government to stop putting nails on the trees for planting advertisements. The works done in a short tenure of six months is historic in many senses,” he added.
Though, he accepted that there was some lethargy in dealing with files in the Board but blamed lower level officials for that. “We had applied online system to fix the issue,” said Mani Shnakar who would visit his office on Thursday for the last time.
