A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob of villagers after he was suspected to be a thief at Sadigawaro village under Giridih Muffasil police station on Sunday. The deceased, identified as one Binod Chowdhury, a resident of Simariya village under the same police station areas, was allegedly involved in various theft and other such incidents across the region.
Soon after getting information, a team of police officials, led by the SDPO, Anil Kumar Singh, OC, Muffasil PS, Vinay Kumar Ram, and others visited the site of incidents and looked into the matter. The dead body was however sent to the Giridih sadar hospital for autopsy.
The incident occurred at around 2 am on Sunday, when no onlookers were expected in and around this tribal dominated Sadigawaro village of Giridih.
“As per our information, Chowdhury had broken into the house of Biralal Tuddu and locked all the family members, where they were asleep. Later, he entered the cow-house, where about half a dozen goats and 2 cows were kept and tried to release some goats. But as soon as the cattle smelled a stranger, they all started shouting. It was then, when Tuddu heard the indifferent sound of the cattle, he woke up and raised the alarm. Later, Tuddu, somehow managed to come out from his room and tried to nab the suspect. But on being retaliated, Tuddu received some injuries and fell on the ground. Consequently, the villagers accumulated at the spot and chased the perpetrator. Later, they caught Binod and attacked him with sticks and stones, though he succumbed to his injuries,” a police officer said.
“Actually it’s a tribal dominated village, where the villagers chased the suspect with bows and arrows and hence possibilities of using arrows to victimize the suspect cannot be ruled out”, the police officer said.
When contacted, the Giridih DSP, Sanjay Rana, confirmed the incident and said that nothing much could be ascertained unless the department completely investigated the matter. “But as per the report, the deceased had an old criminal record and he was allegedly involved in almost a dozen such incidents across the localities. We are looking into all possible aspects of the incident so that the facts can be brought-forth”, Rana said.
“On the basis of the statement given by the deceased’s wife, a case of murder has been lodged against five named and few unknown, including the landlord, Biralal Tuddu. On the other hand, another FIR has also been lodged on the basis of the statement given by the landlord, Biralal Tuddu, in this connection”, DSP Rana said.
