Man duped by cyberfrauds in Garhwa

A load of APK files, supposedly linked to government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Abua Awas Yojana, and Maiyaan Samman Yojana, are spreading like wildfire on social media, especially WhatsApp. This digital frenzy has gone hand in hand with a nasty spike in cyber fraud cases. People are getting ripped off trying to get info or benefits from these schemes.

One recent case involved a JMM leader, Imtiaz Ahmed, from Birajpur village. He lost Rs. 805,000 from his bank account after downloading an APK file supposedly linked to the Maiyaan Samman Yojana. Ahmed reported the cyber theft to the Ramkanda police station on Monday.

Ahmed got the APK file in a WhatsApp group on January 19th. He thought it was an official government app and downloaded it. But his phone got hacked. The cyber crooks then nicked £85,000 from his Grameen Bank account on Monday morning.

The Garhwa police have warned people to be careful and not download these APK files.
