In a significant development, the Additional District Judge-I, Rajendra Kumar Sinha, delivered justice by convicting 35-year-old Vishwajit Pradhan in connection with a harrowing murder-for-ransom case. The accused, Vishwajit Pradhan, had abducted Dharmendra Singh from the Sakchi Thana area on February 10, 2022, leading to a tragic end when the victim was murdered for failing to pay a ransom of Rs 50 lakhs. The court has slated the hearing for the sentencing of the convict on November 3.
According to the prosecution, Dharmendra Singh, a resident of Kashidih Line No 5 in Sakchi, had left his home on February 10, 2022, to visit the Rahargora area in the suburban Govindpur area. Despite assuring his wife that he would return home in three hours after collecting interest from clients, Singh never returned. Concerns deepened when his cellphone was found switched off, prompting his son to make inquiries.
Tragically, the family received a call informing them of Singh's abduction and demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakhs for his safe return. The caller warned against involving the police, threatening Singh's life if they did. Despite the family's desperate attempts, they eventually had to inform the police.
The investigation led the police to discover Dharmendra Singh's lifeless body inside an empty residential quarter at Agrico, under the Sidhgora Thana area. Subsequent inquiries pointed to Vishwajit Pradhan as the perpetrator behind the heinous crime. Pradhan was apprehended by the police a day after the case was reported, unraveling the mystery surrounding Singh's murder.
The conviction of Vishwajit Pradhan marks a crucial step towards justice for the victim's family, highlighting the resilience of the legal system in ensuring accountability for such grave crimes. As the court prepares for the sentencing hearing, it serves as a reminder of the collective efforts to bring closure to the victims and uphold the principles of justice in our society.
